Review: Dining at Coral Reef

by Casey Morris on February 25, 2015

Coral Reef at Epcot has had mixed reviews for years. Personally, I love the restaurant and could not find one thing to complain about. My husband has even said it is his favorite restaurant on Disney property, and I might agree!

If you are not familiar with this quaint little gem, you just might have a hard time finding it. It is tucked away, behind the Finding Nemo attraction (The Living Seas for those of you who have not been to Epcot in several years). When you hear the “mine, mine, mine” and see the entrance to Finding Nemo:

SONY DSCHang a right, there. Basically follow the overhead monorail track around the corner. When you see this sign, you are almost there!

Welcome, to Coral Reef!

You will enter through wave like doors by pulling on the seahorse handles.

The theme throughout is absolutely stunning! Upon entering, you will see the long entrance where the check in desk is located on your left. (advanced dining reservations highly recommended!)

There are plenty of comfy places to wait until your pager goes off.

HINT: Arrive a little early to your reservation, and ask for a table next to the tank. This typically requires a little more waiting, but SO worth it!

Here is what the restaurant looks like when first entering.

There is an “upper” and “lower” level to sit, and the lower level is closer to the tank. If you get a table next to the tank, this is how close you will be….awesome!!

Once you are seated, you will have a fish guide. This was actually really fun, spotting and naming the fish with the kids!

Here are a few pictures we were able to get.

This tank is HUGE. In fact, The Seas at Epcot is one of the largest off shore aquariums, boasting 5.7 million gallons of salt water. (I thought that was a pretty interesting fact!)

My kids enjoyed the turtle that they called “Crush” the most. They also liked being paid a visit by “Mr. Ray”!

While checking out the sea creatures, enjoy some yummy rolls:

with the best butter….sprinkled with Hawaiin Sea Salt!

You know by now that the name brand crayons and fun activity books that Disney gives the kids is a huge hit with me!

Now to the food menu…..mmmm….

Front cover and inside of menu

I ordered the Odwalla All Natural Lemonade that was topped with Wildberry Foam. Yeah, it tasted just as good as it sounds!

For my entree, I chose the seared Mahi Mahi with Laughing Bird Shrimp, Hearts of Palm, Jasmin Rice, Cilantro, and a Coconut-Lime Sauce. Ahhhhhmazing!

My hubby ordered the Grilled New York Strip Steak with Cheddar Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and a Peppercorn Sauce.

My kids are both girls, currently ages 6 and 3. Needless to say, they do not eat a whole lot. One girl ordered the kids grilled fish of the day with steamed green beans and jasmin rice.

My other girl ordered the Coral Reef Mac & Cheese that comes with broccoli. They actually ended up splitting these so they both had a little of each…perfect!

Dessert was certainly some of the best we have had on property! I got the Turtle Cheesecake with Caramel, Chantilly Cream and Hazelnut Praline. Not only was it delicious, but the best themed desert I have ever had.

Hubby ordered the Bailey’s and Jack Daniel’s Mousse with a Caramel Crisp. Not as uniquely themed as you can see….but the taste did not disappoint!

The kids dessert is called the Seaside Cupcake. I did not try this one, because the girls devoured it before I got a chance. I’m guessing it tasted okay!

So, would I go back to Coral Reef again? Absolutely! If you would like to add this to your itinerary as well, be sure to contact your agent here at Pirate and Pixie Dust Destinations for help!
