Tips from the Experts

There is so much to see and do! We would love for you to take time to review all the rides and shows so you are familiar with them. However, we realize that not everyone has the time to do that. If you don’t review them, it’s okay as we will make suggestions for you regardless!

Here is a short tutorial on how the My Disney Experience app works. The app does get updated from time to time, but should be very similar to this at the least.

What is a MagicBand?

MagicBands are rubber bracelets that contain an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip in them.

What can it do?

That RFID chip is linked to your My Disney Experience account, accessing all your vacation plans. It can do the following:

  1. Scanned at the airport to board Disney’s Magical Express bus. (through 2021 travel only)
  2. Open the door to your resort room.
  3. Scanned as your park ticket to enter the parks.
  4. Scanned by Photopass photographers to upload photos to your account.
  5. Scanned to access your credit card on file (must use your PIN code for the charge to process)

How does it work?

MAGIC….of course! Or, maybe it is just the RFID chip hiding behind the Mickey.

How do I order my MagicBand?

Solid color MagicBands average $10 in price, but specially themed MagicBands can go up to $25 each.

Since the MagicBand inventory is ever changing, it is easiest for us to teach you how to order these.

You can only order the MagicBands through the Disney website, not the app.

Using the My Disney Experience Website

  • Go to My Disney Experience and log in
  • Hover over “My Disney Experience” at the upper right of the screen
  • Select “My Magic Bands and Cards”
  • The system will then prompt you to browse and purchase bands
  • These bands will already be linked up to your account, so you won’t need to do anything besides wear them when they arrive.
  • In most cases these will ship to your home, but in some cases they may ship to your resort. View tracking info for specifics

What Is Rider Switch and How Does It Work?

If Guests in your party can’t or don’t want to board an attraction, you don’t have to miss out!

If a child does not meet the height requirement or a Guest does not wish to board a particular attraction, no problem! With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with the non-rider (or riders) while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-riding Guests, and the waiting adult can board the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again!

Rider Switch is available at select attractions at all 4 Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.

To Use Rider Switch:

1. First check with a Cast member to see if Rider Switch is offered at the attraction in question.

2. Once at the attraction, approach the greeting Cast Member with your entire party. At least one adult member of your party and the Guests who are not riding will be issued a Ride Switch entitlement by the Cast Member and asked to wait in a designated area (usually outside of the attraction). This group is “Party 2.”

3. The other party members (“Party 1”) ride the attraction.

4. After riding the attraction, Party 1 locates Party 2. Then, Party 1 takes over supervision of the non-riding children or Guests.

5. Party 2 enters and boards the attraction without having to wait in the regular queue a second time. The Rider Switch entitlement must be validated by a Cast Member at this time.

Please note that if the person in party 2 waited alone with the child or non-riding Guest, the number of Guests who may join him or her and ride again is limited.

WHAT IS MEMORY MAKER?

Let’s start by actually defining what PhotoPass is, as you will see that word used often. PhotoPass is the name of the system Disney uses to take your photos within the parks, on some of the attractions, etc. Anyone can get their photo taken by a PhotoPass Photographer!

Memory Maker is the name of the product you purchase that allows you access to digitally download all the photos and videos that were taken and linked to your account.

HOW TO USE MEMORY MAKER

Within the parks, you can have a PhotoPass Photographer take your photo. They will ask to scan your MagicBand or card, as that is how the photos will appear in your My Disney Experience account.

The following rides will automatically capture a photo or video of your family and upload it to your account. (it detects the RFID chip in your MagicBand or card)

Magic Kingdom

  • Buzz Lightyear
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train (photo AND video!)
  • Pirate of the Caribbean
  • Haunted Mansion

Epcot

  • Test Track
  • Frozen Ever After

Hollywood Studios

  • Rock ‘n Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror (photo AND video!)
  • Slinky Dog Dash

Animal Kingdom

  • Dinosaur
  • Expedition Everest

HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUR PHOTOS

After your trip, you only have 45 days to download your photos before they expire and disappear!!

  • If you are missing a photo, call 407-560-4300 or you can report a missing photo online here.
  • If you want to do one photo at the time, you can easily do that through your My Disney Experience app. However, if you want to do them all together, it is much easier to do that on a desktop computer/laptop versus a phone or tablet.
  • If you would like to edit photos with boarders and more, I recommend making a copy of the picture first, so you also have the original to keep.
  • Add all the photos to your cart, then download them all together.

Throughout the parks and resorts, you can enjoy Pin Trading! This is a fun activity, which also create a unique souvenir option too!

You will see pins for purchase in every souvenir shop. You can purchase those, put them on a lanyard or in a pin book, and take them around to trade!

Pre-Covid, you would see Cast Members wearing lanyards that you could easily walk up to and ask to trade. Now, you can go to most shops and front desk lobbies of the resorts and ask to see their pin trading book where you can trade out there.

So what exactly is a Hidden Mickey? Quite simply, it’s an artistic representation of Mickey that was intentionally placed amid the architecture and design of the parks and resorts. Oftentimes it’s the familiar three-circle shape of his ears and head. Other times it might be a profile of his face or a full-body silhouette. Walt Disney World Guests with keen eyes can tell you that Mickey pops up all over the resort, often in the most unexpected places.

I highly recommend to purchase this book, if you are not familiar with Hidden Mickeys. It will help you find some!

On the day of arrival, Resort hotels will place an authorization hold on your card for any balance due on the reservation—plus $100 for estimated incidental expenses. If your spending exceeds the original $100 hold, additional incremental holds will automatically be obtained. The authorization holds on the card will not exceed the current balance due plus $100.

Payment is processed for the balance due on the account after checkout. For reservations longer than 5 days, the card on file will be charged the current balance on the Resort folio(s) every fifth day of your stay and after checkout. In general, charges will be settled and posted to the card within 1 to 2 days after checkout day.

You will only be charged for what you actually spent and any authorization holds in excess of the balance due will be released after checkout day.

This policy doesn’t change your booking terms and conditions. If you’ve booked a reservation that must be prepaid—or if you’ve opted to provide full payment in advance of your stay—the balance due upon check-in is zero dollars, and only the $100 authorization hold for estimated incidental expenses will be placed on your card.

For a reservation that is not prepaid, an authorization hold for the remainder of any balance due on the reservation and an additional $100 for estimated incidental expenses will be placed on your card upon the scheduled arrival date. Additional authorization holds will automatically be placed on the card, through and until the end of your checkout day, as incidental expenditures exceed the amount previously authorized to the card.

*If you have any gift cards, you can go to your resort concierge desk every 5th night and ask them to apply the gift cards towards your balance. This allows you to spend on your MagicBand, but still use the gift card towards the balance!

If you are driving, this is just a friendly reminder about the resort parking fees that will be added onto your resort account upon check in at your resort. The fees are as follows:

    • Value Resort= $15/night per vehicle plus tax
    • Moderate Resort = $20/night per vehicle plus tax
    • Deluxe Resort = $25/night per vehicle plus tax

Please take the time to let us know how we did in assisting you.

We are a small business that thrives off of referrals and positive online reviews. There are 3 different ways you can help us stay in business so that we can help others. We would love to have them all completed, but very appreciative if you could do at least one!

1

The best way to leave your travel advisor a review is directly on their business Facebook page. If you don’t already follow them, you can find them by searching “Pirate and Pixie Dust Destinations” followed by their name.

2

You can leave a review on the agency’s main Facebook page. Be sure to mention your advisors name in your review!

3

You can leave us a Google Review. Again, be sure to mention your travel advisor’s name!

Thank you for trusting us with your precious vacation plans. We do not take that lightly.
